Amy Schumer & Jennifer Lawrence: The Unexpected Dynamic Duo
Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Schumer are writing a comedic screenplay together, according to The New York Times. Lawrence revealed they are working together during an interview for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 with the newspaper.
“We play sisters,” Lawrence said. “We’re almost done writing. It just flowed out of us. We’ve got about 100 pages right now.”
She added: “Amy and I were creatively made for each other. We have different flavors. It’s been the most fun experience of my life. We start the day off on the phone, laughing. And then we send each other pages. And we crack up. I’m flying out tomorrow to see her in Chicago. We’ll write a little bit with her sister, Kim, who worked with Amy when she was writing ‘Trainwreck.’”
Lawrence said that she only met Schumer a few months ago. “I emailed her after I saw ‘Trainwreck’ and said, ‘I don’t know where to get started. I guess I should just say it: I’m in love with you. We started emailing, and then emailing turned to texting.”
Not to overstate this, but this is one of the most unexpected announcements in recent movie history. What’s also nice is that it doesn’t involve a celebrity news casting announcement related to an upcoming comic book film.
While it’s an admittedly strange pairing (I don’t even know that people knew Schumer & Lawrence were friends), it’s almost impossible not to be at the least intrigued, and at the most excited.
In terms of their current career paths, this may be the pairing of the two “hottest” (I hate that) female actresses/celebrities. Amy Schumer has had success in both television and film. She has a hit show on Comedy Central called Inside Amy Schumer and recently wrote and starred in the very well received Judd Apatow directed comedy Trainwreck (say that previous sentence 10 times fast).
The 25 year old Jennifer Lawrence is without a doubt the most popular actress right now in Hollywood. She is a phenomenon.
Lawrence gained international fame for playing heroine Katniss Everdeen in the Hunger Games film series (2012–15), which established her as the highest-grossing action heroine as of 2015. She starred in David O. Russell’s romantic comedy Silver Linings Playbook (2012), for which she won the Academy Award for Best Actress, becoming the second-youngest Best Actress Oscar winner. For her supporting role in Russell’s comedy-drama American Hustle (2013), she won a BAFTA Award and a Golden Globe Award, and received a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.
Lawrence’s personal life is, of course, obsessed over by a celebrity hungry public, but I won’t get into those things. Schumer and Lawrence are both engaging personalities, and the idea that they are writing a comedic screenplay together should excite moviegoers. Indeed, the news has received a ton of positive press and responses.
