Matt Damon: ‘Jason Bourne Would Kick the S–t Out of Batman’

Matt Damon thinks his alter-ego would have no problem taking down his best friend Ben Affleck’s Caped Crusader.

“Jason Bourne would kick the s–t out of Batman—absolutely!” Damon said with a big smile when I caught up with him at Toronto International Film Festival, where he was promoting The Martian (in theaters Oct. 2).

“Batman’s gotta take on Superman first,” he added. “If he could beat him then maybe he could take on Jason Bourne.”

Has Damon heard Affleck’s Batman voice?

“I haven’t been like, ‘Come on, dude, just do it once,'” Damon said with a laugh. “I haven’t asked him to talk Batman yet, but now maybe I will.”

Damon has never played a comic superhero, but he’s OK with that.

“I think they’re kind of out of superheroes,” Damon said. “Ben’s going to be like the sixth or seventh Batman, so I don’t think there’s really any left. So I’m good. Jason Bourne is my superhero.”

Damon is currently shooting his return to the Bourne franchise. And if you’ve seen the new photo of him from the first day of shooting, I think you’d agree he certainly has the body of a superhero.

Damon will be seen next in The Martian, opening in theaters Oct. 2.

Thoughts: Would Jason Bourne kick the shit out of Batman?

This is a tough question. By the way, obviously Matt Damon is totally kidding — he and Ben Affleck have been friends since they were kids, so it’s not like Damon is throwing the actual gauntlet out or anything. So this article is kind of bullshit — welcome to the world of online movie blogging.

However, for the sake of fanboyness — let’s see if we can get a gage on how a fight between Bourne & Batman would perhaps go. Indeed, both characters are awesome at fighting.

Jason Bourne:

Jason Bourne’s abilities, talents, and skills are as follows: a great spy, mercenary, assassin / hit man, C.I.A. operative, expert in mixed martial arts, uses good ingenuity and is resourceful, able to drive various vehicles, can evade enemies, can confront enemies out of nowhere, at least from a distance, where they don’t even know he’s there, uses various weapons like firearms, knives, and, even a pen and magazine to beat up his enemies, has money at his disposal, he’s able to change his identity and name on his passports, good with some technology, knows how to get off of the grid.

He can hold his own against the best of the best, and he has an awesome talent for using the environment to his advantage, constantly beating the fuck out of his enemies with whatever ordinary household items he manages to wrap his fingers around.  He’s used everything from books and extension cables to washcloths and candlesticks as lethal instruments of extreme bodily harm, pummeling and choking the shit out of some of the most dangerous and deadly men on the planet.

Batman (Bruce Wayne):

At the same time….Batman is a master in hundreds of styles of martial arts, even ninja skills, a master mind, master detective, master escape artist, master scientific mind, pilot, has ALL of the money at his disposal as a billionaire, master of resourcefulness and ingenuity, has gadgets, gizmos, and technology that NOT even law enforcement or government agencies have in their possession…

Though it would undeniably be close, I’d have to give Batman the slight edge over Bourne because of the resources available at his disposal. Now, Bourne can be incredibly resourceful with very little, nonetheless, he’s simply outgunned by Batman.

Now, if we put Jason Bourne up against some other fictional character, he would have a much better chance: Salt (Angelina Jolie), Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise), Jack Reacher (Tom Cruise), James Bond (Daniel Craig, Pierce Brosnan, Sean Connery, take your pick), Rorschach (Jackie Earle Haley), Hitman – Agent 47 (Timothy Olyphant), Transporter (Jason Statham).

Still, would be interesting…Although, I gather most comic book fanboys will have Batman winning going away….What do you think?
